  1. I have verified that my 15th great uncle was one of the builders and owners of the Mayflower. Captain John Vassall, born 1 Oct. 1544 in Caen, Calvados, Bass-Normande, France, and died 13 Sept. 1625 in Stepney, Essex, England. He was her captain on several earlier voyages but not on the voyage to America. Is there any other information about him? His wife was Lady Anne Russell.

  2. Annita — As noted earlier in this article, you can search newspapers for articles about the Mayflower and the builders. Newspapers are a great source of historical facts. As for searching ancestors in England and France, I would try searching the free website FamilySearch.org. Google has information as well about John Vassall and Anne Russell.
