My Dad’s Basketball Days Found in Old Sports Articles

I have been uploading our old family photos and added this one of my Dad playing on the Burdick school basketball team in 1938.

Photo: the 1938 Burdick school basketball team
Front row: Romano, Perniciaro, Attilo “Tips” Vento (captain), Potts, Slivinsky. Middle row: Irving, Fisher, Willard Kemp, Charles Henry, George Beadle. Back row: Dyer (manager), McClelland (coach), O’Neill (principal), Eldon (Asst. Manager). Source: Thomas Jay Kemp.

I wondered if I could find any news accounts of their games in GenealogyBank’s Historical Newspaper Archives. I quickly found two articles.

An article about boys basketball, Daily Advocate newspaper article 12 January 1938
Daily Advocate (Stamford, Connecticut), 12 January 1938, page 13

And this one.

An article about boys basketball, Daily Advocate newspaper article 15 February 1938
Daily Advocate (Stamford, Connecticut), 15 February 1938, page 11

Notice that most of the players in the photo are named in these two articles.
