My Dad’s Basketball Days Found in Old Sports Articles

Photo: Willard Kemp and his teammates on his 1938 high school basketball team

I have been uploading our old family photos and added this one of my Dad playing on the Burdick school basketball team in 1938.

Front row: Romano, Perniciaro, Attilo “Tips” Vento (captain), Potts, Slivinsky. Middle row: Irving, Fisher, Willard Kemp, Charles Henry, George Beadle. Back row: Dyer (manager), McClelland (coach), O’Neill (principal), Eldon (Asst. Manager). Source: Thomas Jay Kemp.

I wondered if I could find any news accounts of their games in GenealogyBank’s Historical Newspaper Archives. I quickly found two articles.

Daily Advocate (Stamford, Connecticut), 12 January 1938, page 13

And this one.

Daily Advocate (Stamford, Connecticut), 15 February 1938, page 11

Notice that most of the players in the photo are named in these two articles.
