Registering to Attend RootsTech Online

Introduction: In this article, Gena Philibert-Ortega gives step-by-step directions for registering to attend RootsTech 2026 online, and provides screenshots of each step. Gena is a genealogist and author of the book “From the Family Kitchen.”

Online and free. Those two words are music to the ears of genealogists. Lucky for us, RootsTech, the largest family history conference, offers two options for attending: in person at Salt Lake City’s Salt Palace Convention Center in Utah, and online. The online option is perfect for those who can’t travel for whatever reason. And best of all, it’s free.

Register Now

With a free online option, there’s no reason not to attend RootsTech, so how do you get started? First, you need to register for the conference.

To begin, go to the RootsTech website’s Registration Page.

You will then see another web page with a register button.

You will then see an option to “Register with FamilySearch Account” with a button below that that says “Register Now.” You will use the account you use to access FamilySearch. If you do not have a FamilySearch account, you can get one by using your Facebook, Google, Apple credentials – or, if you are a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, you can use your church account. You can also simply create a username and password to start your account.

Tip: If you don’t have a FamilySearch account, use this as an opportunity to secure one. FamilySearch is a free genealogy website with records and resources you need for your family history.

Your FamilySearch account will help you access FamilySearch, the RootsTech conference website (use it at the top right “sign-in” button to log into the website), and features such as Relatives at RootsTech.

Need Help Registering?

If you have questions about registering, there are a few places you can find help on the RootsTech website.

At the top right of the RootsTech website is a question mark inside of a circle. If you click on that icon, you will see options such as “Frequently Asked Questions” and “Contact Us by Email.” There is also a “Chat” link as well as a “Chat” button further down the right-hand side of the web page.

Once you have successfully registered, you will see a “Congrats!” web page. You are now done registering!

You will receive an email shortly after registering. This email will encourage you to build your schedule, and you will receive additional emails as we get closer to RootsTech, which begins March 5.

Now That You Are Registered, Get Ready!

Once you have registered for the conference, take a look at the schedule and identify sessions you want to watch and times. What happens if life gets in the way and you don’t have time to watch the event live? No problem; presentations that are recorded are available to watch in the RootsTech video library.

One way to be notified of RootsTech updates is to follow the conference on social media websites such as Facebook. The FamilySearch Blog is another good source for information about RootsTech: see RootsTech posts on the FamilySearch Blog.

See you at RootsTech (online)!
