It was easy to find more articles about him, like this long article that describes his experiences in the war – and the personal journal that he wrote in 1836 “to write the story of his experiences as a soldier in the Revolutionary War.”
Several other descendants mentioned him in their obituaries – like Charles Mitchell Carpenter (1874-1954), a great-grandson of the patriot ancestor.
Another descendant, Mrs. Leroy T. Corkern, gave a presentation at a local Daughters of the American Revolution club meeting, about Collins’s journal and other artifacts passed down in the family.
These are great clues to find other cousins, as well as actual documents and artifacts that have been preserved and passed down in the family.
