Minnesota newspapers 1849-1922, 1986-Today online

Minnesota is 151 years old today.

Minnesota became the 32nd state on May 11, 1858.

The vote wasn’t unanimous – the New York Herald (12 May 1858) reported that the vote was 157 for and 38 against admitting Minnesota into the Union.

That’s the wonderful thing about GenealogyBank – we are able to read newspapers from across the country and get the details of the history of our state as that history was made. GenealogyBank has Minnesota newspapers dating from 1849 – before statehood.

  1. Those who lived in the Cloquet area must have received Dulth news back in the days.

I must admit newspapers is one thing I have totally over-looked.

We run the heritage society here in Carver County, and been researching the jobs in the old days to make genealogy more interesting that just names on paper. In other words the logging, and the mines etc.

This was an eye opener article and gave me some good ideas!!..Thank you..:)
