Richmond, who married a Fife girl connected to my family, as his second wife according to his death certificate he was born 1828 (can't remember the exact date off my head) in Lebenon, Maine to a John w. and Mary. In the 1850 census he is married to a Mary E. (with children) and living in Rochester, NH and there is a John and Mary Dove/Dore(it is transcribed as Dove, but could be Dore) with other Dove/Dore children living in the same dewelling as John W. Richmond. John Dove/Dore is born 1801, given age and mary is about 1808, given age. I am trying to confirm the Richmond/Dore connection so please response.

Hello Tom, Miss you from Godfrey but enjoy reading...

Hello Tom, Miss you from Godfrey but enjoy reading you on this site.
Are there any other reasons for a name change?
My husbands gr grandfather joined the Navy in 1889 and gave the name of Frank Mortimer Wheeler, but his birth name was Lazarus Steinfeld.
At that time was it impossible for a Jewish person to join the military?
Could he change it without official court allowing it?
I went thru all the name change records for NY but didn't find it.
Thank you
Eviewhee
